Carbohydrate addiction is caused by an imbalance of insulin in the body. When you eat foods high in carbohydrates, too much insulin is released. Insulin's job is to tell your body to take in more food, and once the food is eaten, it tells your body to store the energy from your food as fat. When you have too much insulin released, your body tells you to eat too often and too much, so your body ends up storing way too much fat. If this continues to happen over a long period of time, the fat cells begin to shut down, causing the blood glucose to be trapped in your blood stream, which causes you to have adult-onset diabetes.

You start with a very strict 2 week phase, and then, depending on whether you are trying to lose or maintain weight, you will begin a certain eating plan.

Michele Turcotte, MS, RD reviewed this diet and states that science has shown that you can lose a lot of weight by eating a low carbohydrate diet.
