Cardio Free Diet

How does the Cardio-Free Diet Work? The Cardio-Free Diet turns your body into a fat-burning machine. It is based on the belief that a 20-45 minute strength training session three days out of the week is a more effective way to burn fat, build muscle, and burn calories than running on a treadmill or cutting calories. When staying committed to these sessions you are picking up all the benefits of cardio training and promoting a healthy heart without the extreme food restrictions or boring cardio equipment. The Cardio-Free diet can be purchased as a book that you can follow at home, or there is a live program available for those who live in the Chicago area.

The Cardio Free Diet promise to you?

Jim Karas, the creator of the Cardio-free diet, attempts to set his diet apart from all the others out there. He promises that with his diet, you will not have to fast or suffer through eating non-traditional foods. He claims that his diet will jumpstart your weight loss. His formula is designed to optimize fat burn and tone your body.

The Theory and Details Behind the Cardio Free Diet

The Cardio-free diet was created by Hollywood trainer Jim Karas. Many of the principles are similar to other diets. Where it sets itself apart is in the details.

Like many other diets, the Cardio-free Diet recommends eating fewer calories. Jim says the diet does not exclude any foods. However, he also instructs followers of the diet abstain from processed carbohydrates, liquid carbohydrates, and salad dressings. Whatever your nutrition choices, the diet calls for restricting your calories.

Jim Karas then turns his attention to exercise. He claims that cardio exercise is not only not beneficial, but that it actually kills your immune system and your weight-loss plan. His theories aren't supported by any studies, but rather on his personal experience.

What Health Care Professionals Say About the Cardio Free Diet

It is a well-accepted fact that cutting calories will result in weight-loss. The amount of calories that the Cardio-free diet recommends is a concern for Marisa Moore, RD, LD, the American Dietetic Association. She says, The calorie level for men is very low, especially if you're younger or more active. I find that 1,500 calories is too low for most men, which can make the diet more difficult to follow and stick with.

The exercise regime recommended by the diet is even more contradicted by experts. "The diet is correct when it says that strength training increases lean body mass and raises your metabolism," says Kirsten McCormick, CSCS and Master Trainer at Equinox, but that doesn't mean strength training alone should be done instead of cardio, as the diet insists. Cardiovascular exercise is essential for strengthening the heart while it burns calories as well.
