The Juice Diet was created by Christine Bailey, a nutritionist, consultant on food and health, and professional chef. She writes for several food and health magazines, and is the author of two other healthy recipe books. She wanted to find a diet that would rejuvenate the body in the fastest, and most healthy way possible. Fruits and vegetables contain all the essential minerals and nutrients we need for our body, so providing these in juice form gives our bodies everything they need, without forcing our digestive organs to work hard. No added fat or calories are consumed, so our bodies can clean themselves out and function naturally.

Three Different Juice Diet Plans

The Juice Diet provides you with over 100 juice and smoothie recipes you can use for any of three different plans. The first plan is called the Juice Blitz, which is a quick plan you can do over a weekend. The second plan is called Juice Week, which is a one week plan that helps your body really get in tune with what makes it function the most efficiently and effectively. The third plan is called Juicing for Life, which is a month long plan that teaches you how to use healthy juices throughout your life to maintain a healthy weight and high energy levels. While on the diet, you will consume between 1-2 liters of juice every 90 minutes throughout the day. You will also need to drink between 6-8 cups of water daily. Along with the recipes included in the book, you are encouraged to take supplements to ensure your body gets all the nutrients it needs. Some suggestions are also made for healthy solid foods you can use as part of a healthy diet.

Preparing for the Juice Diet

If you're used to consuming mostly solid foods, switching to a mostly liquid diet may come as a shock to your body. One week before you start the Juice Diet, you need to start preparing your body by reducing or eliminating any caffeine, sugar, salt and alcohol. A few days before the Juice Diet, begin eating mostly whole fruits and steamed vegetables. Begin to reduce or eliminate any animal products like meat, eggs and cheese. Try to avoid eating citrus fruits because their acidity can cause upset stomach. Some recommended foods are spinach, carrots, apples, celery and cranberries. When you complete the Juice Diet, ease yourself back into your regular eating habits slowly, just like you did when preparing for the Juice Diet. Eat small snacks throughout the day, mostly composed of fruits and vegetables. As your body adjusts, you can re-introduce other foods, including grains and animal products.
